Trash Talk with Heidi Part 2

Number explained, PCR, Pact Collective and TerraCycle

In Part 2 of our segment with Heidi Hubert, we break down the mystery of those little numbers on plastic bottles and what they mean for recycling. You’d think the numbers would go in order, from good to bad (I mean, what else are numbers for?), but of course, it’s not that straightforward. Clearly, someone, somewhere, wanted to make it even more confusing!

Would a rhyme help?

"One is good, two is too,
High five to five, it’s safe for you.
Three, four, and seven? Use with care.
But six is trouble, beware!"*

(*) This rhyme was written by my AI assistant, so if you don’t like it…I’ll understand, but you’ll have to forgive me.

There are two organizations that Heidi cites in this interview that are doing a good job of making a difference. If you aren’t familiar, please visit Pact Collective and TerraCycle for more information.

Thank you for watching, Bina
