Today, we’re unpacking one of beauty’s juiciest issues. And no, I’m not talking about anything scandalous…well, maybe a little. It’s about recycling. Spoiler alert, size, and color matter.
I’m thrilled to announce our new series: Trash Talk with Heidi. The goal is to simplify, clarify, and make us smarter about sustainability without shame or finger-pointing. This isn’t about call-out culture. It’s about all of us, doing what we can to do better.
I’ve spent over a decade behind the scenes developing beauty products, and I know the defensive strategies many take. There is shame around wasteful packaging. There is so much confusion. What can be recycled? What actually gets recycled? And what just ends up in the landfill?
As co-founder of hi-BB, my perspective has shifted. We’re a multi-brand platform. So the question isn’t just, “How does one brand talk sustainability?” It’s, “How do we, collectively, take better care of all the stuff crowding our bathroom drawers?”
Meet Heidi Hubert. We met over a decade ago when she was my client at Abercrombie & Fitch. Later, we became colleagues and developed thousands of packages together. Heidi brings a PhD-level knowledge of packaging and a rare obsession with responsible recycling.
This interview is practical, eye-opening, and just the beginning. In Part 1, we break down why size and color are key to what gets recycled and what doesn’t. Watch for all the details and stay tuned for Part 2 next week!
